Write For Us

Do you find yourself watching sport with a curious eye — not just for the highlights, but for the patterns, tactics, and trends unfolding beneath the surface? If you’re driven to dig into the data, question the obvious, and tell compelling stories from the numbers, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re building a space for thoughtful, entertaining, and accessible sports analytics stories that combine rigorous analysis with compelling narratives. Whether you’re into football, rugby, basketball, athletics, tennis, cricket, or a niche sport, if you can reveal insights through numbers and make readers care, you’re in the right place.

What We’re Looking For

We publish pieces that live at the intersection of data and storytelling. Your article should do more than just crunch numbers — it should reveal something new, challenge assumptions, or bring clarity to questions fans and analysts are asking.

Your piece might be:

  • A deep dive into a player’s performance over time and what it reveals about their future
  • A statistical investigation into a trend (e.g., the rise of inverted full-backs or the impact of rest days in tennis tournaments)
  • A data-led response to a hotly debated question in sports media
  • A visual analysis using charts or pitch maps to explain a team’s tactics
  • A story that brings stats to life through a compelling character, club, or rivalry

We love:

  • Engaging writing with a clear narrative arc
  • Honest takes backed by evidence
  • Creative use of visualisations (heat maps, bar charts, scatter plots, etc.)
  • Work grounded in good methodology and clearly communicated

We’re also open to:

  • First-person accounts with a data twist
  • Lighter, humorous pieces that still bring analytical value
  • Experimental formats, such as simulations or model-based predictions

What Your Pitch Should Include

Before sending a full draft, we’d like you to pitch your idea. It doesn’t need to be overly formal, but it must include the following:

  • What’s your core question or angle?
  • Which sport(s), player(s), or team(s) are involved?
  • What data are you using, and how will you analyse it?
  • Why is this interesting now? (Timeliness, relevance, or fresh perspective)
  • How will you structure the piece? (Brief outline)
  • Any previous writing samples (A blog, Substack, Twitter thread, or GitHub repo is fine)

We welcome contributions from writers at all experience levels — from professional analysts to passionate fans just getting started. As long as your story is accurate, well-argued, and compelling, we want to read it.

We Pay

We believe great sports analysis takes time — whether you’re digging into performance data, running models, or crafting a sharp narrative. That’s why we pay fairly for thoughtful, original work. Exact amount is agreed on an article-by-article basis.

We are able to help with data collection and data visualisation.

We aim to be transparent, fair, and flexible — if you have a great idea but aren’t sure how it fits into this structure, get in touch anyway. We’re happy to have the conversation.

Before You Pitch

We highly recommend reading a few of our recent articles to get a sense of our tone and expectations. We aim to be smart without being academic, and insightful without being dry. If you’ve read something great and thought, “I wish I’d written that” — that’s probably the energy we’re looking for.
